Angel was same who was Holy Ghost that came to Mary, the mother of Jesus and the same who helped Jesus in his mission. We don`t speculate on our prophets` words like previous nations did (to whom prophets came). They ridiculed their prophets and killed them, we believe in our prophet`s words 100 %.
We learn from the mistakes of our previous generations of humanity, if we deny our prophet or twist his words or speculate about what they said (like u r suggesting) we will be loosers and guide-less.
So my answer to you is "NO" it could never have been possible. It WAS an angel that came to him with the message from Allah.
