Hi, I have a submerged tooth and the orthodontist has refered me to the hospitol to have it taken out and I'm pretty sure I will be given general anaesthetic and I'm scared out of my whits. Surely if I'm only having one tooth taken out it shouldn't be long so shouldn't be too bad. Can anyone speak from experience to re-assure me. Thanks

I dont understand why they are sending you to a hospital to have the tooth removed, my oral surgeon put me to sleep to remove impacted wisdom teeth but I didnt have to go to a hospital.
I think alot of people are afraid that they wont wake up and I am one of them. I had 8 surgeries in one year and I woke up everytime.
Try not to worry yourself sick over it everything will be just fine!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been put under for operations and procdures at least 15 times in my life.

Just make sure the anesthesiologist knows all the medications you are taking prescription and over the counter. He/she is well trained in the job of anesthesia and will take good care of you.

Being put under is a piece of cake. Just relax knowing that you won't feel any extreme pain as the surgeon works on you.

PS... It's gonna be ok! :)

ive gone under. and for the same thing too. it was my first time too. i told myself that i was gonna try to stay up and not get knocked out. i wasnt scared i just wanted to see if i could do it. they started to count back from 10. by 9 i was out like a lite. theres no pain. the only bad thing as that when i woke up i wanted to go home rite away (just because i felt drowsy). wen i tried to get up i felt a little quisy but thats normal. just lie there for a few minutes. youll kinda drift in and out for about ten minutes. then they give you medicine so it doesnt hurt. all you have to do is sleep. it makes you tired and grogy but thats it.

well good luck and dont worry theres nothing to be scared of :)

When I had my wisdom teeth extracted I was put under general anesthesia and it just felt very sleepy at first and then when they woke me up 30 min later...(for 4 teeth) I felt as though I had only blinked my eyes! I was nervous at first too but after you have the procedure you will realize it wasn't bad at all! Good Luck!

I had a tooth removed once and they gave me meds to help me fall asleep. Just pretend it's pain medicine and fall asleep. It was over before I knew it and I never felt a thing.

Just don't think about it!
Hope this helps!

It sounds like a pretty routine surgery. Ask them if they can give you a valium before hand to ease your anxiety right before. This is common for oral surgery.

You will be fine!

They have gas that doesn't put you to sleep but you lose all sense of time. It's great: he turns it on and then it's over. When he turns it off, you think he's gonna start now, but you're not asleep.

I had it done and it's ok. A little painful for a few days afterwards but painkillers deal with that. Don't worry, you'l be fine!
