See, this is what always bothered me. Most religious people will say that homosexuality is a choice (let us not discuss that now, please, I'll get to my point) and some even say that perhaps they were born with it but that they still have a choice of exploring their homosexuality or not and that they should choose not to.

So let's say I'm a religious woman who wants to set a homosexual on the right track and I offer to marry one - don't you think it's a bigger sin to delude ourselves and ruin our lives by condemning ourselves to no happiness at all? Plus, we risk committing adultery (let's face it, it's inevitable), which would just add to our pile of sins.

P.S. Just for the record, I'm an atheist and I don't believe in the concept of sin in the first place.

Hmmm, so you would have prefered it if I lied and pretended to be a believer? Sorry, lying is not in my opus! :)

I found out that my very first boyfriend turned out to be gay. He later got married and had two children, to a Fundamentalist Christian. He was also a very strong Christian at that time, and incredibly musical. Then later on, he divorced his wife. They have been involved in custody battles ever since for their two children. She's a fundamentalist homeschooling mom living in the midwest, and her ex is now living in San Francisco.

What's sad is that I don't think he realized that he was gay when he got married, but then admitted the truth later on. It has left his ex-wife very bitter and resentful and his children very very confused.

I wish my ex-boyfriend had been able to be honest about his sexuality and not have tried to live a straight life. It has caused a lot of heartache for the 3 people left behind. From what I've heard, he's happy now in a same sex relationship.

So, as a Christian, I don't believe that you should try to reform a gay or a lesbian. If that person truly wants to leave the gay/lesbian lifestyle and is willing to commit to abandoning that lifestyle for the rest of their life, that's one thing. But not if there is any chance they will stray from their marriage vows.

Interesting question. Of course people are born homosexual, it is not a choice.

We can see a real life example of two deluded people choosing the wrong way in the case of Randy Constan.

This guy's webpage is here:
http://www.pixyland.org/peterpan/

He is CLEARLY gay, he calls himself a "boi" and is queer as a three dollar bill. However, he's been brainwashed by his Christian ideals to be straight. He has a girlfriend here:

This relationship is doomed for disaster. She is not helping him to choose the right way and likewise, he has not chosen the right way for her.

This is living a lie, and is unfair to all involved.

Even more tragic would be having children to try and cement that "heterosexuality".

Poppy, I hope you aren't going to waste your life with a homosexual. Other than that, I've read your profile and believe that you are quite a sensible person. Your Atheism proves that.

Every straight woman's dream. You are just in for a life of misery and woe. Give it up while you're ahead.

Of course it wouldn't be right, it would be a disaster for both of you, and a lie, and you would probably both end up committing adultery. God bless.
