I agree. My parents NEVER dropped me off at the movies or at the mall with friends to "hang out" when I was younger. I see parents now a days drop their 12 or 13 year old kids off so they can hang out. That is scary. If I wanted to get together with friends it would be at a friends house or a school function. You are absolutely right when you say that you can't tie them down, but because of the way my parents were, when I got into high school and had my license I was very respectful of their rules and they always knew where I was, who I was with and what I was doing. It made for a very trusting relationship with them.

People are too overprotective these days.
The risk of them getting shot or kidnapped in my quiet, residential neighbourhood in a medium sized town is not worth them being watched constantly and unable to do anything. I'm all for the standard "don't talk to strangers" deal but.......
But yes, parents should at least know where their kids are.

I think we should know the where abouts of our children and be able to reach them as well. This has nothing to do with being overprotective, it's about being a responsible and concerned parent.

We hsould as parents always should have. But what do you mean by watchign them? They still have to learn to cope adn to function ALONE. If we dont teach them to do so adn to be responsible and to be smart about things, they will still leave home at 18 and then be unprepared.
