I think that 1974 was the year Ford lowered the compression and changed the 460 to run on unleaded gasoline so if you have a 73 or older engine you will not be able to get the advertised HP unless you can get some 100 octane aviation fuel. You will most likely have to retard the spark some to get it not to "ping" in warm weather.

I believe ford started the 460 in 1973 , there was 2 one with 198hp & 1 with 202hp. In 1974 195hp & 275hp, 1975 only one at 218hp

I'm not positive, but I beleive it depends on application. These were torque monsters, hp was quite low. I'm guessin 190 or so hp and 345 or so ft#. Give or take 20. I know the mid 80s truck 460s peaked at around 200hp.

The 67,68,69,70 and 71 460's was rated at 365HP.,by 72 that had dropped to 224HP.or 212HP they had two different engines that year.in 73 they had 200,212 or 224HP 460's. And in 74 it was 202,208,212 or 224HP 460's.So as you can see the older the better, look for 73-74 POLICE interceptor 460's,they had the best heads, basically open chamber Cobra Jet heads on those.Remember that starting in 72 HP is listed in SAE net figures. If the older engines had been rated this way they would show lower HP too.And compression dropped after 71 which helped kill HP.But they are all torque monsters because of their size.As they use to say,You can't beat cubic inches.

200-275 is right, just depends on WHAT it is or was in, they had a real mild cam and small carb to kill the horsepower
