LOL! I know what you mean! I like to use white shades and a high wattage bulb but I install dimmers on my lamps to give a softer, more golden effect when I want it. In addition, I have mica lamps and antique glass lamps that are more for ambiance.

because--when you look at a plain bulb--usually not on purpose, you will see a black blob everywhere you look for a few minutes--very annoying
