"The American Dream" as referred to in books is starting with nothing and going places, making a name for yourself, supporting yourself, having a good life. better than when you started. The American Dream has been around a lot longer than President Bush has, so that's not a great answer.

The American dream is to be a star football player/ cheerleader and go on to an ivy league college and be in a frat house and graduate and be big at the firm and marry your high school sweetheart. Then you move into your dream house with all new technology and are the talk of the neighbors on just " how cute and perfect you are together' and have a little white picket fence. Then you have a son and then a daughter and they are the perfect children and the son likes baseball and the daughter likes tea parties. You invites the boys from work and the neighbors for a bar-b-q and drink some light beers and watch fire works and as you lay in bed after doing it with your perfect trophy wife/husband you say aloud " life couldn't be more perfect"..... and the president has nothing to do with it. I think he is far from most American dreams...

G W Bush is a trust baby. The American Dream has to do with pulling oneself up by ones own bootstraps - self made men and all that.

The American dream works from the bottom up, not the top down.
The American Dream starts with knowing there are millions of people who will protect you, and you freedoms...the regular person who sits next to you in a movie or restaurant...the clerk at any store. We call them fellow citizens.
You see, our politicians are just temp employees.
Ask anyone who they would trust...
Bush or the grocery store clerk.
The clerk would win.

George Bush is the American president, not the American Dream. The term "American Dream" was first used by James Truslow Adams in his book The Epic of America which was written in 1931. He states: "The American Dream is "that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown weary and mistrustful of it. It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position." My American dream is to gain control of the borders and fix the illegal immigrant problem. George will have to leave before that can happen.
