If you're lucky enough to find a nice person to be with and you both agree that you want to be together to love and help each other out while you are in this life, then you make a promise before God to take care of each other. It's a church thing. how the state and gays got into marrying each other is beyond me. What they are doing is pointless if God isn't part of it.

There's a difference between a wedding and marriage. A wedding is just the ceremony, marriage is:
- putting someone else's needs before yours
- being there for someone throughout the tough times (illness, financial problems, unemployment)
- accepting someone for who they are, without trying to change them
Marriage isn't necessarily about sex (many people still stay together even when sex is less of an issue, due to ill health or old age) or even children (there are lots of happily married couples who either can't have kids or have chosen not to have them). It's a bond for life: "till death us do part".
