This guy I know is getting married, I've been acquainted with him for a few years but wouldn't really classify him as a close friend or even a friend at all considering how rarely we communicate with each other.

He's getting married though and having a small wedding with close friends and relatives, and my friend is close friends with the bride. The invitation states they can bring one guest. She said she doesn't know any guys who aren't already invited or in the wedding so she wanted to know if I'd like to be her +1 since I do know them and she figured I'd enjoy it.

My question is though isn't the +1 typically supposed to be someone you're seeing or your spouse not usually a friend? Would it be appropriate for me to go as her guest or should I thank her and decline?

go...have a good time...i went with my friend to a wedding last summer as her guest and didnt even know the couple being married---had a great time and met some wonderful people...

and my best friend accompanied me to a wedding of a high school friend while my husband was deployed...

so...i say accept the offer, it is not inappropriate...and enjoy yourself...

A plus 1 is just that. A person the invited guest wants to bring to keep them company. I think it is ok since you are at least acquainted with the groom.

Girl, go and have fun! I wouldn't mind, at all, if someone brought one of their pals to our wedding....actually, I am already kind of expecting a few people to do it! Good luck!
