I lost my birth certificate a couple years ago, but never thought to get a new one. I've been looking for it and its no where. I need it because i'm ready to go into the Marine Corps but cannot enlist without my birth certificate.

I believe you probably had a certificate of birth abroad,

You will probably need to contact someone in the state department.

Here's the address. Provide the names of both birth parents, the date of birth and the place of birth. Enclose a check or money order for $30 payable to "Treasurer of the United States":
Vital Records Section
Passport Services
1111 19th St. NW
Suite 510
Washington, DC 20522-1705
Your official birth certificate was issued by the State Department after your military birth certificate was presented to the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
I handled a lot of these when I was the assistant administrator of a Naval Hospital in Japan.
Good luck with the Marines!

You could contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in Italy and give them your information. However, it would probably be best if you contacted the State Department. Your parents should have received a “Certificate of Birth Abroad” plus the local Italian city government should have issued the actual birth certificate but it is probably not printed in English.

Try the state department web site for more information.

My oldest son was born in the Netherlans, and his birth certificate actually says "Consular report of Birth Abroad". I would contact the State Department to try and get a copy.
