I am in the state of Utah, and they can garnish your wages for it. I do know that much. I am unsure if they can take my tax return though. They have not started any garnishments though.

They cannot attach your tax refund for a private judgement. Your refund can only be attached for tax or other debts to the government, child support in arrears, or government insured student loans in default.

However if they get a judgment against you they CAN garnish your wages in many states AND go after any money in your bank account. Once your tax refund hits your bank account if they have a judgment against you and have an order from the court to go after your bank account it can be taken then.

The medical providers can place the past due amounts in collection, can pursue the debt with aggressive collection activities and could eventually file a judgment against you.

They can NOT garnish wages or a tax refund.

No, not your tax refund, but if they garnish your bank account they could take it when it gets to the bank.

Only if they take you to court and win a judgement.

Of course, if you owe a lot of money and you are paying too much each week in taxes, you should adjust your withholding. Stop loaning the governement your money if you are in debt.

Seems like paying those bills might be a good use of that refund check.
