I have come across my Mum's bible and I was looking at it. Some words have changed.
E.g
Leviticus 18:22 states: "Thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination."
Leviticus 20:13 states: "If a man also lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they should surely be put to death....".
In my bible,
Leviticus 18:22 states: "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."
Leviticus 20:13 states: "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."
What version is my bible?
I am christian by the way and am a bit concerned. I want my Bible to be the same as every other Christian's bible.

The Original Bible {The Tanakh} was written in Hebrew ,while the Christian New Testament was written in Koine Greek.
The version you have sounds to be the New International Version {NIV for short).
Compaired with The King James version the New International Version has taken 17 whole verses out of it texts and also has moved 6 out to be only put in to "Foot Notes" compared to the one your mother uses which is the King James version which leaves them in and which most of your faith use.
Your mother or ? may have gotten you that version so it would be easier for you to read.

the Bible you have is a New International version or NIV many christians use them. I prefer the King James version but I have a NIX as well I also have an American Standard Version as well as the Living Bible and the New King James Version. I would also like to purchase a Message Bible as well. Have many versions of the word helps in study. Be careful though because many of the more mordern version like the NIV are actually missing verses. Hope this helps God Bless

I'm not sure which version you have, there are so many now!
Look at the copyright dates - and the publisher company if it is listed either in front or in back. Some Bibles didn't even use copyrights. After finding out that information, you could do a search on the internet about the publisher and copyright dates to discover your version.
You could also try "BibleGateway.com" and pop in your verses to see if it will tell you which version it is.

Leviticus 18:22 with "abomination" is the King James Version and it is the Bible that I prefer because it is not copyrighted.

All you are pointing to is different translations of the text. The underlying text of those verses are written in Hebrew. It contains idioms and usage that doesn't translate word for word into modern English. Hence, both of them are correct in that they carry the sense of the original Hebrew, but neither is a literal translation from the Hebrew.

Your Bible reads the same as my Bible...Think about it the bible that reads mankind and womankind makes no sense since when you say mankind that includes woman and man, so it makes no sense to say you shall not lie with mankind as with womankind....So whoever translated your moms bible was obviously a moron not inspired of God...
Personally i like the Amplified Bible.....

They are just different translations but it is good to have both then you can compare and deiced the best translation. also get a good Greek to English and Hebrew to English and then you will be alright. I would guess your moms is a nasb and yours is a niv

There are many translations of the Bible, some in more modern language. It's good that you are comparing them. So long as the meaning isn't changing with the modernization, I wouldn't be too concerned.

OK, it all makes sense to me. It is language we used in the 18th century and is the Old King James Version. Try the new American version or the NKJV. I try to stick as close to the original... but in today's language.
Compare 1 John 5:6-12 with the newer version and compare.
Many older folk like this older version as they were brought up with it.....It does not necessary make them any more holier :-)
