I have been on the Atkins for for many many months and now need a break from it. I am tired of eating hamburgers and steak.

I was wondering if I ate mostly brown rice for one week, would I lose weight or gain weight because of the carbs. I have diabetes type 2.

I did have around two cups of brown rice this morning and have been to the bathroom six times. It is good to eat fiber, but would this be a way to lose actual fat.

Nabisco makes a new 100% whole grain baked cracker that is wonderful. They also have carbs, but also fiber. I am getting to the point of not knowing what to eat anymore. If I eat any carbs my stomach blows up like a balloon and I have never been able to figure out why carbs do this to me. I do not over eat carbs.

Will a brown rice diet help me lose weight. I am thinking of one week only.

Thank you.

Are you still on OWL, or at maintennance? You can begin adding small amounts of "regular" carbs when you reach maintennance, but 2 cups all at once is a heck of a lot.
Why not try some different recipes and foods? There's a great yahoo group called Low Carb Recipe Box that has thousands of delicious recipes to try and still stay within your carb ladder.
Here's a lowcarb recipe for "fried rice" that looks and tastes like rice, but is still lowcarb! (5g per serving, 3 net)

FRIED "RICE"
10-15 ounces fresh cauliflower, grated, about 1/2 head
2 cloves garlic, minced
Cooking oil, 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 egg, beaten
3 green onions, chopped
Dash pepper, optional

Heat the oil in a wok or large non-stick skillet on medium to medium-high. Add cauliflower and garlic; stir-fry until cauliflower is nearly tender, but not mushy. Stir in the soy sauce and sesame oil. Push cauliflower to one side of pan; pour in beaten egg. Lightly scramble egg briefly then mix into cauliflower. Add green onion and pepper, if using, and toss.

Makes 4-6 servings

Per 1/6 recipe: 86 Calories; 6g Fat; 3g Protein; 5g Carbohydrate; 2g Dietary Fiber; 3g Net Carbs

Yes brown rice will help you lose weight because it is a holy whole grain unlike rice. The Atkins diet will make you sick unhealthy. See site below under last fat loss tip and also under water weight.

If you add a lot of salt to rice or any food, it will make you fat. Site below tells about an MD diet of brown rice helping you to lose weight. Soy sauce is loaded with salt.

Be careful of many 100% whole grain items. Many of them are loaded with sugar/corn syrup or artificial sweeteners.

Try whole wheat noodles also. Brown rice is good also. Best of luck with the Atkins. I was on it for 3 months and it worked pretty well.
