I think most everyone puts maple syrup on french toast... I put powdered sugar on mine.. most of the time. My dad puts Ketchup on fast food Biscuit and Gravy (Military thing, but it isn't bad)... My boyfriend puts ranch dressing on lots of things (burritos, pizza, chicken, potatoes..etc). I put Grape jelly on sausage biscuits. I also take deli ham and put brown mustard on it and roll it up and eat it like that.. LOL

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but you were definitely not the first to use maple syrup on french toast. People have been doing this for years and years, particularly in areas that produce maple syrup, like Vermont and Canadia.
It is so much better than typical pancake syrups sold in grocery stores, isn't it?

In a waffle house in Chicago, I ordered french toast with canned strawberry&apricot, ice cream, and maple syrup.
It was the strangest breakfast I have ever eaten. It was nice, but strange!
Only the Americans!!!
(The only problem for me in that joint was the bottomless cup of coffee. The waitress kept topping it up; but she didn't wiat until I had finished a cup before refilling it, she kept pouring more in, and I never knew how much more sugar to put in, and by the time we left I did not know how many cups of coffee I had drank! I was buzzing on caffeine and fruit sugar when I left.)

I put a cream cheese syrup blueberry mix in between my french toast. Just slather on each piece and smash them together and you will never eat a better french toast.
