For simple shoplifting, first offense, no.
You will probably get probation, a fine, and have to pay restitution to the store.
However, if it can be proved that you went into the store with the intent to steal, it becomes a burglary. There is a small chance that you may serve time in juvenile hall even with a first offense, depending on the judge.

Well I live in CA, but i am assuming it is all pretty similar. if you steal over $400 worth of stuff its a felony and you will likely go to Juvenile Hall for a short time.
If you steal small stuff under 400, you will be charged with a mistamenor and fined, and it will be on your record forever, and probably not put in jail.

Is 16 an adult in NJ or a juvi?
Yes, he may go to jail or may just be issued a citation for the shoplifting. it depends on the value of the stolen item and the criminal history of the suspect. if he'd done it before, then the charge enchances automatically, its called the habitual offender.
Here is a site that tells you how much time/penalty could be applied
http://crimeprevention.rutgers.edu/crime/shoplifting/njlaws.htm
and here is another site that tells you about NJ shoplifting laws too..

Well your supposed to be 18 before you go to jail otherwise you would probably just go to Juvy! You could still go to jail though , it's just not likely. But why would you want to steal anyway!!!

well I know in Florida you can and most likely WILL be arrested and possibly sent to Juvy but as for a jail sentence probably not, probably just probation unless it was big or you attacked someone while stealing it

i do no longer think of that's incorrect in any respect. 2 years truly isn't that lots of a distinction. some human beings marry those that are like ten years older (which i do no longer approve of yet good day human beings nevertheless do it). in the event that they the two like one yet another, i do no longer see what the difficulty is. they simply can not legally have intercourse till the female is above i think of 18 years previous or the guy ought to circulate to penal complex. So be careful.

Depends on how much was taken,if the store wants to prosecute, first time and so much more. You may just be turned over to your parents....sometimes its safer to go to jail, then home... with really ticked off parents!

Possible, but not likely.
If you stole enough, you could be waived into adult court, or sent to a juvenile detention center.
This would probably only happen when the juvenile has an extensive record.

can go to juvenile detention.(if over 14 can be waived by chancery to higher court)
the amount or value of item(s) stolen will decide how severe the crime.
theft of electronic devices can add up fast to a $250 limit.
