Wow, I haven't heard this one in a while.
President Bush was Active Duty for training for about 2 years .
He was a fighter pilot in an Air Guard Unit that had pilots flying missions in Nam. Not a good unit to hide in.
By the way there were 100's of thousands of active duty troops who are Vietnam Era vets who where never in Nam.
Understand now?

No, he avoided service because he was in a Reservist unit that was not deployed to Vietnam.
It doesn't matter if you love or hate the guy, that's the way things were. Anyone else joining a National Guard air or ground combat unit at the time probably wouldn't have gone to Vietnam unless they wanted to.

Young Pilots go where they are sent!
G.W.B. Flight / Squadron of the Air National Guard never received orders to deploy overseas.
If you can post evidence to the contrary showing orders cut and detailing G.W.B. overseas, or any evidence that he received preferential treatment then you better post it!

A little bit of research on your part would have kept you from asking that silly question. His UNIT was never deployed to Viet Nam. Do you expect he should have struck out on his own? Sheesh

HE ONLY DID WHAT EVERY OTHER PERSON WOULD TRY TO DO!!!! so don't make fun of him if you had the resources and LUCK to get in that position you would too. I'm not saying its right or wrong. i think he's a good president not a great one but good and has lead this country better then Karry or Edwards ever could. not to mention the report on the news was total bull. and if you volunteered to any service instead of getting drafted you had special treatment anyways.

Well no one's ever going to say yes, but I think so and who wouldn't do that if it was an option. As did Bill Clinton who dodged the draft. I don't think its wrong what they did,If I could get my child out of going to a warzone, well I would.
The difference is that Clinton listened to the joint chiefs when they laid out what would be involved in invading Iraq. The Bush administration removed anyone that spoke in realistic terms. In the end the military leadership did have the outcome and resources needed in Iraq correct but were over-ruled by the civilans.

Honestly, there are alot of people of privelege in our country. But, why don't you call them all out across the board? What about Clinton? What about Kerry? Even if they do go to war, they really aren't in harms way. Doesn't matter if they are Republican, Democrat, or Independant. And for the poster who said we are all cannon fodder for this war? Your military has one of the highest educations of any profesion in the US. We are not poor or undereducated. We chose to join, and we are doing an awesome job. If you have a problem with the war, fine. Voice it to the people who make the policies, don't belittle us.
EDIT: For those of you who are using the "our poor troops" crap, don't feel sorry for us, and don't use us as pawns in your political agenda. We don't do politics. I have no problem with you voicing your opinion about the war. Hell, that's what I joined the military for, to protect our freedoms, but voice it to the policians who make the policies you don't agree with. We can't change anything about it.

If they bought the draft back, you would see demonstrations and marches in no time and they know it. That's why our poor troops are going back a third term. Damn shame!

No.
He simply was not sent there. He could have been but the aircraft he was trained to fly was not used in Vietnam.
I wish people like you would get a life and not allow your partisan hatred to cloud your judgment.
