if the choke is removable, you should not shoot rifled slugs out of it. It can and probably will strip the choke tube out and ruin the threads. If it is a permanant choke due to a pre-cut taper in the barrel, you can fire rifled slugs through it. Remington makes a short slug barrel for the 870 that will give you fantastic results with slugs. I would recommend purchasing one of those.

Remington recommends that you only shoot slugs thru an Improved Cylinder Choke. If you have a screw in type choke barrel you can easily buy one from Remington or any other stocking Remington Distributor..

If you wish to shoot Sabot Slugs than it is recommended you buy a " fully rifled" Slug barrel for your 870. Sabot Slugs will shoot further and more accurately than conventional slugs fired thru a smooth-bore shotgun...

I would suggest that if many of you want to shoot slugs out of shotguns to deer hunt,, or whatever, you buy a shotgun with a slug barrel on it. Or,, in most cases,, you can buy and additional barrel for your shotgun in a slug barrel. Scope mounted,, they are highly accurate. Why take a great shotgun for squirrel hunting or bird hunting and ruin it with slugs.

You can use slugs with the choke on. In fact, if you unscrew the choke and shoot slugs, you will damage the choke threads.

Yes you can. Remington recommneds that you use an imporved cylinder choke. If your barrel has a screw in choke you can purchase a new choke. I have seen rifled chokes but do not know if they work good.
If you would like to shoot sabots, I would recommend that you buy a fully rifled barrel. This is what i use and have had much success with it. Sabots shoot farther and more accurately.
