Buddhism works to make the world a better place, by encouraging the individual to be a kinder, gentler and more understanding person, and that in turns creates a better world, when it is filled with better people.

Not a chosen one, because everyone has the same choice as me.

Overall, I'd say religion elevates man from just thinking about himself, to thinking about others.
It's an IDEAL that you strive to attain, regardless of whether or not you ever attain it.

In that aspect it is like a light that you shine to illuminate your path. You could travel thru life without it..but how would you know if you are staying on the path... You NEED the light to compare the path you are walking with that of the DESIRED path.

Religion is not crutch, but an objective ideal outside of your own flawed rational. I might be able to "rationalize" certain behaviors to myself..(for example....."It's OK to lie because I didn't want to get someone ELSE in trouble...right?") but when I compare them to my religious ideal, I realize how small and selfish they are.

So YEAH, I think it HELPS me to be a better person then I'd be without it.
BUT... I can't say it makes me a better person then EVERYONE

I dont really have a chosen religion in context, I just go with what I feel is right and ethical, as well as the logical and needed choice. Not just along with some book I've read,

It doesn't make me anything but Heaven bound.
I am a good person, but Jesus helps me. I try to be better every day. I mess up a lot.

Yes, I think it does. It gives me a center and encourages me to be honorable and to strive for the noble virtues.

Chosen one? Not even close! I'm the first to say that my religion and deities aren't for everyone and that I'm still learning.
