The catholic church shuns homosexuality, as most religions do. So, if a priest is such a holier than thou type guy, why is it he doesn't give in to his pent up sexual urges with a hooker, nun or other adult female, but a MALE child, no less. What is wrong with such a religion/culture? It sounds to me like some priests are homosexual, as well as child molesters. Do you agree? Discuss.

Gay people are no more or less likely to be attracted to children than straight people are. The vast majority of gay men enjoy being with other *mature* men, not with little boys. Just like most straight men desire to be with a real woman, not with a little girl. For whatever reason, some sick men have a specific sexual preference for children, and there are several reasons why so many of them end up in the priesthood.
1) The Catholic church has for a long time allowed free access to children for it's clergy, with no supervision and no accountability for misconduct. They never policed their own ranks, and even when a pedophile priest was discovered the higher clergy would just ship them off to other parishes and assume that praying for him and getting him to repent would be enough to solve the problem. Parents have also made the mistake of placing unconditional trust in priests, thinking they could do no wrong.
2) Seminaries in the U.S. have lowered their admission standards in recent decades due to the dwindling numbers of young men willing to sign up to become ordained a priest these days, and are basically willing to take anybody no matter how creepy they seem.
3) Because the priesthood requires absolute celibacy and requires the extinguishment of all carnal desires, pedophiles who feel guilty about their feelings hope they can get rid of them by steeping themselves in an asexual lifestyle. Of course, that just doesn't work. It's not simply a matter of having pent-up sexual urges because you can find pedophiles in all areas of society, not just the priesthood. There are pedos who are married and have children, and despite having a willing and an accessible wife available will still force himself on a child if given the chance. They are the way they are, just like a 100% straight man can't one day suddenly decide to enjoy sleeping with guys, no matter how hard he tries.

When I was 13, I didn't quite have these ideas, but I was pretty perverted. Don't listen to what anyone else says here - YOU'RE GOING TO BE OKAY. Chances are, believe it or not, these thoughts will eventually go away. But in order for them to leave, you have to stop watching porn and reading those stories. Believe me - I've been there and I've done that and by stopping, my life has gotten a LOT better. It took about three years, but I eventually changed. Chances are, you won't feel lust towards your son or any other younger kids when you're an adult. As far as your "fantasy world" where you're married....well, a lot of people have that actually. I did. I was able to let that go for the most part after a few years. I know it's difficult to believe this, but you WILL probably grow out of it. Don't feel guilty - it's not all you're fault. As far as incest with your father, well, I guess it could be an issue where you wish you were closer to your real father and it's just that you're translating what you want incorrectly. Try to stop reading and watching these unhealthy things. I'll be praying for you. :)

It's been estimated that half of all priests are actually homosexual to begin with. There is also a psychological basis to much of this. When you deny or suppress your natural, normal urges over a long period of time, those urges begin to warp and change.
And, while the media jumped all over molestation cases involving young boys, young girls were not immune to this problem either, they were just less likely to be reported than the male victims.

I believe as well as anything there are outcast and people who cannot control there urges from the evil, they are messed up in the head they cant seem to follow the lord but then again it might tie down with Adam and eve if you cant control your sins then i guess your not trying hard enough priests, its sick and unless they don't stop and repent they'll go to hell regardless of who they are. And im a christian not the cathloic affiration its werid these popes are doing that. i do know god does not approve of it.

Pedophilia has nothing to do with homosexual or heterosexual. Most male pedophiles that molest male children would never choose an adult male partner, even the ones who are able to pursue normal adult relationships.
That's because pedophilia is not about sexual orientation.

The molestation is more about power than sex, like rape; also, the church has a weird viewpoint toward women, treating them as both virginal icons and second-class citizens.
It's also about access; those with predelictions toward molesting male children are likely to seek employment in an atmosphere where they have available victims, whereas those who molest female children find other jobs, like coaching girls' softball teams..

Anyone who molests a male child is indeed a homosexual pedophile. The fact that they are also a priest is simply what makes it more newsworthy.
Both homosexuals and pedophiles are present in all societal groups. One is a danger, one is not.

I think this is the biggest disgrace of the Catholic church, to this day it seems that many in the church would rather turn a blind eye then face the issue head on.

Regardless of what people have heard, Gays do NOT go after children.
They leave that filthy perversion, to heterosexual males.
and I agree, why not go after the available nun, or use masturbation!
A religion that sequesters their males, and females, and then denies them natural God given sexual practices, is strange!
God gave us sex as a gift, why then deny it to his most humblest of servants??
That is just wrong!

Probably girls were not available to a priest so much.
Paedophiles do tend to turn up having jobs close to children.
Paedophilia is not a question of homosexuality.
