There's this guy that I like, he's a year older than me, and we hang out with almost completely different people. He's always surrounded by so many people, but I have my close friends that I hang out with. I have a very small school (60 in my grade), so everyone hears about everything within their own grade.
Here's the problem: His friends don't think so highly of me (which makes me wonder what he thinks) and my friends joke about dating him, and they always end with, "Gosh, I hope that never happens to me!"
My first question is: There's a dance coming up, should I ask him, regardless of what our friends might think? (We go to different schools, so he can't ask me)
Here's the second question:
I'm not sure if he likes me. My friend told me after seeing his reaction when he saw me one night, that she thought he liked me. He hugs me every time he sees me and we always have a short conversation. But, he never talks to me when I talk to him over the internet. Do you think he likes me?

From your description I cant tell if he likes you or not. It could also just be a matter of how he likes you - as a friend or maybe something more. But if you never ask, you'll never know.
If he says no then dont worry about it, life goes on and there will be many more guys. ;)

2)i dunno, maybe you need to try and talk to him in person first and you two might become closer.
