While I have been going to school I never held a constant job. I always did jobs on the side as they were more flexible and I could cope better with them. Now I know that potential employers will look down on an empty resumee and I am not sure how I can explain that.

I have been a professional manager for over 30 years for companies like HP and Boise Cascade. Since you are a student make sure that your resume focus is on your education. Have an intro cover letter stating that your are a student looking for part/full employment. Send the letter directly to the hiring manager. Once you get the interview you can explain your side jobs. I for one would listen and respect the fact you had side jobs. I did when I went to college and now I mid to senior level manager with an MBA.

Without any prior work history you are most likely looking for jobs that do not require a resume, just filling out the application should be enough. On the application you could list just the most verifiable ones, if they relate to the job you are applying for that would be a plus.
When you list your school history you could show that as the area where you have been focusing.

If you have been a student, you should be alright without work experience. If you are still in school or a recent graduate, check with the college's Placement Office or Career Advisement Center to find jobs that are actively seeking recent graduations or college students. Those companies won't expect a great deal of work experience, or offer postions that they are willing to train for.

What the heck were these "jobs on the side"? Surely there is a way to list them. At least they show your willingness to work--but not your ability to show up 8 to 5.
