Do prophets get criticized and persecuted? Of course they do. All throughout the Bible the prophets of old here criticized. Look at Noah. They laughed him to scorn. Christ taught that his believers would be persecuted for his names sake.
If God's prophets were popular and sought after by the masses, something would be wrong and it would appear that such would be preaching the precepts of man and not God.
That fact that Joseph Smith was persecuted, falsely accused and arrested for practicing religion in the land of religious freedom, only serves to support the idea that he was indeed a prophet of God.

What Kerry said!!!
Don't you just love the privilege of worshiping as you please, without listening to everyone else's mouth, about what you believe???
Welcome to America, land of the free, with freedom of worship!
Or is it that everyone else BUT, the LDS, can worship as they please?
Constitution, people! A lot of good people have died so that the LDS can follow the religion of their choice!
Mob violence, perpetrated by ''' good christians'' are the ones that dragged Joseph Smith from Carthage Jail, AFTER killing his brother Hyrum
So does anyone else think that it was a miscarriage of justice, that NOT one person was ever tried for their murders?
Freedom of religion?? Evidently, only for SOME people!!!!

A prophet is someone who helps to open the hearts and minds of people, sometimes his teachings will be radical, it is a changing of the minds.

I believe there are no prophets. Only wisemen. And you would be wise to listen to their wisdom, not their prophecies, because that's all the good that can be had from them.

Joseph Smith was a false prophet. The Bible even warned against people like him, and still some fall away.

A true prophet will not be a womanizer, won't be run out of town on a rail, won't die as a law breaker. How about Ellen White? She consistently pointed people to scripture, and praised the Savior.
