Was online doing some auto insurance quotes to see if I can find cheaper auto insurance and a friend of mine who also is in the military suggested I try looking into USAA. Wow !! I went online and got a quote and it's almost 125.00 dollars cheaper than what I have now (GEICO) during a 6 month coverage period.

For any USAA members out there, do I have to be a paying member of USAA to get auto insurance? (I'm assuming yes, but wanted to ask first)

Also, what are the annual membership dues like ?

The quote I got seems too good to be true, but I've been in the military almost 25 years now, so maybe they base my premiums on years of service? Don't know.

On the USAA site now, but thought I'd ask any USAA members first before paying

There's no membership fee. You have to be active or retired military, or spouse of active or retired military, or child of active or retired military. That's it.

It's pretty hard to beat USAA, for price, AND for service.

USAA Rocks!

I have USAA (7+years)- its free to join if you are military. There are no membership fee's or anything like that. If you are not yet a a member you will have to join by opening a savings account with $5. Thats it. Then you will have access to all of USAA and everything they offer which is alot more then just insurance.

I use USAA for everything - Checking, Savings, Car Loans, Motorcycle loans, Credit Cards, Auto Insurance, Homeowners Ins, Retirement savings, FInancial advise and a ton of other stuff.

USAA is most likely the best choice that you will ever make. Seeing as you are military, You will qualify for their coverage, and as you have found, the rates are better than any other company that I have found. The best thing is if the claims history for the company is lower than they expected, you actually will get a refund of some of your premium.

USAA is a mutual company, rather than a for profit one. This means that they work for the policy holders, rather than to make money for the company!!
