I already have my BA degree in Spanish, but I'm still not fluent, & my GPA is EXTREMELY low, due to my OCD & poor concentration. I tried going back to school to boost my grades, but my grades aren't improving-in fact-getting worse. My unwanted thoughts are more intrusive, & I struggle harder to focus & can't. I feel mentally cripple. Also, every job I go look for, most people don't want to hire me because I "look too nervous & mentally special/retarded"-I also suffer anxiety, depression, & Tourette's. I've lost a few jobs because 1 lady found out I have TS. Discrimination-I know. I couldn't help my twitching. I keep taking out all these student loans & can't get any other financial aid since I'm a graduate. I'm a Post-Bac student. The last 2 semesters I did poorly & I was hospitalized. Since I'm not getting anywhere in my desired career, do you think I should leave school alone & forget about applying for jobs, where I'm basically making a "fool" out of myself? Employers laugh in my face when I ask for an application, & they toss my resume in the garbage right in front of me. I’m telling the truth. Also, 1 lady fired me from my job because of my meds making me sleepy. Most of the time I’m too depressed to get out of bed.

I wish I can be more able & functional. Many people tell me to get off my fat, lazy butt & get a job, but then they turn around & tell me how employers have every right not to hire me. I don’t want to be mentally debilitated like this. What advice do you have? It feels like I’m not going to get anywhere in life, & I’m destined to be a “NOBODY”.

I think you need to take a step back before taking out another loan and really seek some professional help and get some meds before you go bacck to school. This is really harming your future with all this debt! (and could also be a source of some anxiety, I know MY debts are a source of anxiety for me)

second of all you should really seek legal advice for the discrimintation that has been happening to you. Those sorts of things should NOT be happening in the workforce!

Maybe you should seek out a degree/career that you REALLY love! I for one was having psychological probs and started taking classes that has to do with that (psychology and sociology) I took them for gen eds and ended up really loving them because they made me peer into the depths of my own head :P And made me see why I act the way I act..........

Find something you REALLY love and then pursue it like crazy!!!!

You are wasting your time being negative and time is the most precious commodity you have.

Instead of repeating the stories to yourself about what is wrong, start patting yourself on the back for what you have done right. Do you know how many millions of people do not even graduate from high school, let alone from college?

Stop calling yourself mentally disabled. You are not. You have written a lucid and clear question here. You are what you think you are, so start thinking positively and filling your mind with inspiring, helpful thinking. Avoid anyone in your life that is putting you down or making you feel low.

Also, don't concentrate so much on grades and GPA - that is not the purpose of education. What is important is that you are learning to think critically and clearly, wherever you find yourself.

As for any handicaps - let me tell you a little secret. All humans are born mentally and emotionally handicapped. We are all struggling internally with fears and inhibitions and anybody that tells you otherwise is lying.

Perhaps yours are a little bit more out in the open. Good! That doesn't mean the other person is mentally and emotionally whole! You are just able to be more honest about the reality of this earthly existence.

If you can see the other person (the employer, etc.) as on the same level as you (rather than you as lower) it will do wonders to your psyche and outwardly you will change. It won't take over night because you did not get the way you are in one day but it will happen.

If it helps, remind yourself that they have to take the same sh*t as you do every day. They are no better than you and the source of what they have is the same source that operates in you.

Learn to meditate and channel that source.

Good for you for trying! Do not ever give up on getting an education. What you do need to ask yourself, however, is "What am I the best at?". Figure out what you can do, what you like to do and try to center your education and your job expectations on that. Would you be good at counseling others with disabilities? Would you be good at helping others to obtain the student loans since you have applied for so many of your own? Would you be better at something that you did not have to be in the public eye to do, such as medical records, billing or inventory? Think along these lines and I am sure you will find something that suits you. Do not let these other people tell you that you are a "Nobody" and will never amount to anything. Make a list of what you would like to do, what your skills are, if you should do a job in public or private quarters and go from there. I assure you that you will find what you are best at and when you do you will find an employer that will be willing to hire you based on what you have done in your schooling and with your determination. Good luck and know that your skills and abilities are needed somewhere out there!

You are just in a crossroads. You've got the ambition in your mind, you have the goals laid out before ya, now to take care of some minor detail that is a road barrier...your mental state. Your not mentally retarded, you have mental health issues. Obviously, the meds you take or took don't do the job. It just gets more complicated when it also exhausts you. Get some different meds, first and foremost.I had to try a half a dozen to find one that worked for me! Ones that'll get to the root of your chemical imbalance. I take antidepressents because of my anxiety, which created OCD and those intrusive never ending thoughts. Some were were downright scary. Then I'd get paranoid, depressed, exhausted (On my days off I usually spent it laying down). Your goals are still ahead of and within grasp, don't worry...but I'm sure you do ...obsessively!

I work with mentally and physically challenged people of all ages, low functioning, moderate functioning, and high functioning. The fact that you are high functioning should be taken as a sign that you are meant to do more with your life then sit on your butt. Keep trying to get a job...yes it will be more difficult for you, but it is possible. Don't let yourself go, you will regret it.

Carry on and achieve your goals. Eventually you will find the right employer, or perhaps you will end up self-employed. Either way, don't give up just because some people cannot deal with your medical problems. Good luck x
