Well, there's one word that is the same in any language-
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! I went to FL and the person whom I was talking to could only speak spanish. I said this word and the person knew what I was talking about! Hey, if it worked for Dame Julie Andrews, it can work for you too!

For your specific question, ask where is the toilet. In European homes, the toilet room is separate from the "bath" room. I heard of a woman who asked her host, "May I see the bath room?" The host was puzzled, but escorted the guest to the room containing a shower, bath tub, and vanity sink.
Also, you cannot say "Thank you." too much. My favorites:
German: After a lot of "danke sehr," "danke viel," and "danke schoen," try: "Ich danke Ihnen bestens." That will blow their socks off.
France: After a lot of "merci beaucoup" and "merci bien," try, "vous etes tres gentile."
Netherlands: "Dank U Well," but to really express it, "Mijn dank ist groot." (To pronounce groot, you have to draw up some spit and say a truly guttural "g.")
