We used to build them when we were children. At first we couldn't get the roof to close in, but then we were taught how to compact the snow and shave the edges of the sides so they would lean in on each other. We actually got quite good at it and there were igloos in almost every yard that had children (and some that didn't) I live in an area that has little to no snow now, although we did have some for Thanksgiving. The only joy I got this year was taking the snow shovel that my Mom brought with her from New York when she moved in with us, and shoveling off our sidewalks. I used to make money doing that as a child and it was nice to revisit the old familiar feeling of learning to move the snow without straining myself. It was also nice to wake up in the morning and see the walks all neat and tidy when the rest of the neighbors were still shaking their heads and wondering what to do. The next day, it was mostly gone, although my piles of snow persisted. For Christmas we got only a little rain and a lot of wind, but my memories were fresh enough to carry me through. The most amazing part about being inside an igloo is how warm it can be, and if you finish the walls properly, it can be fairly dry as well, at least until the melt of course.

No, but I know someone that has.

One of my friends' families went on a 7 country cruise two years ago, and one of the places to which they went had igloos. She said that it was actually larger inside than she'd expected; which is, of course, good, because she's claustrophobic. Also, she said that despite what many would believe, it was actually warmer inside, than outside. She also said, however, that she couldn't stand looking up at the top, because it seemed as if the structure could collapse at any moment. [[Luckily, it didn't. Lol.]]

I think I might like to, someday.

My brother and I made one (haha, a kid's version) when we were young, and there was much more snow each year than there is now. It was fabulous! We even used food coloring mixed with water and sprayed on the outside to make it "colorful." It was a hit with all the kids in the neighborhood, and many tried to recreate it in their yards. Of course, someone was jealous, and came in the night to destroy it. I think I cried the whole day long.

No. We sorta used to make them as kids though. We tried our best. LOL We couldn't make them the way they were made in the past though.

I don't think anyone makes them anymore, unless for historical purposes perhaps.

No, but that's one thing I've always wanted to do!! I'm very attracted to anything to do with snow, ice, cold. The opposite of what I have :)

Have you?
