To Star: Like I said, I'm not suicidal or anything, it's just that one of my friends was getting high off Panadols or something and I was worried she'd OD but she said it takes like 48 to OD. And I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

To sadisoux: How many times do I have to say I'm NOT suicidal, I was just wondering if what she said about having to take 48 pills to OD was true since I figured it'd be less than that.

48 pills is way to much for your body to cope with. I'd stick with the amount put on the bottle..

People do have their own personal concepts of what an overdose is supposed to be. Actually, it's anything more than the recommended dose, and may have no adverse effects at all. And many of the toxic effects are not those the uninformed have in mind. With paracetamol, for instance, it does indeed take a huge dose to ensure acute toxic effects, but those effects aren't of the type suicides think they'll be. They don't drift off to sleep but rather get nauseated, and the death, if there is one, is weeks or months in coming, awake and miserable through most of it.

Exact doses were hard to ascertain, but the researchers concluded that continual use of as little as 7.5 grams (7,500 milligrams) per day could be dangerous.
Compared to those who overdosed intentionally, study subjects who did so accidentally were more likely to have been taking two or more acetaminophen-containing medications or a narcotic-acetaminophen combination, usually for pain. They were also more likely to have suffered severe hepatic encephalopathy - the mental confusion and disorientation characteristic of later-stage acute liver failure.
Overall, 71% of patients survived the overdoses, although 8% required a liver transplant. Results were published in the December 2005 issue of Hepatology.
