I would be interested to know Christians thoughts on why they get hostility from atheists.

I have seen in the past, people accusing Christians of arrogance and of being interfering (praying for someone that hasn't asked for it).

But I would be very interested in Christians own thoughts on this matter, hopefully an interesting exercise in self analysis.

Aware of that Strange, but I didn't want to make the question too broad.

Lucid Freedom; I don't want to answer my own question. You tell me why you think it is the case please.

Lucid Freedom, I asked why Christians got hostility from Atheists and you answer with, it's because I am Christian.
My question is why that hostility is there, why do Christians get that hostility. OBVIOUSLY, it is directed to Christians.

The reason Christians get a lot of static from atheists (and other religions) is two fold. One, it is the age old question of who is right and who is wrong etc. When two people have a differing opinion on something, it is only natural that they will disagree. Unfortunately, I have seen badmouthing coming from both sides of the question. The second reason is probably in some ways brought on by Christians themselves (including me). It does sometimes appear that we are arrogant....but we are not in actuality. We are confident in our beliefs and feel pity for those that do not understand. That will make us appear to be arrogant in some ways. We also pray for others even if they dont ask for our prayers because we want them to have the blessings we have. I guess you could say that being a true Christian means you want everyone to be a true Christian. Not so that they agree with you, but so that they will have what you have. It is awesome.

This shouldn't be called the "religion and spirituality" section. It should be called the "War Between Christians And Atheists" sections. Christians aren't the only ones getting hostilty. For example, that girl who keeps posting "Why are evolutionists afraid of the truth" even though it keeps getting deleted. Although Christians do get the worst of it. To be honest, I think it's because they don't have much of an arguement. They believe in it because of faith, but it can't convince other people. I think Christians just gave up trying to argue, but we atheists are trying to keep it going. It kind of annoys me. Why can't we just leave Christians alone? If they're not convinced by now they'll never be.

Edit: I think the first answer was a joke. Ah, sarcasm over the internet...*shakes head ruefully* lol.

I get hostility because I have Jesus as my Father. You know, Ive never damned a person to Hell, nor made a point to tell an atheist that I will pray for them (though many times I have in private) I'm not arrogant, disrespectful or a hater. Yet, Im still hated. So you tell me? There are MANY of me out there; yet we are still perceived as a threat. CL said it correctly. It supposed to be this way; as hard as it is sometimes. Gods peace

EDIT: I answered you, its because I am a Christian; not of anything hateful I do, but because I am one.
As we shouldnt generalize people or certain groups (races, etc) I should also be judged on who I am...not what others do. As we all should be.

Hostility occurs on the internet IN GENERAL because people are not thinking that the other side of their computer screen sits a living, breathing human being just like themselves with a beating heart.

I will tell you exactly why I get hostile. I have been told I am a terrible mother, I am a social outcast, I have no future, I am lying to myself, I will be prayed for, I only have children because God gave them to me when I believed in him, and so on. Now I really make a conscience effort to not let these nasty people get to me. On occasion they do and that makes me hostile toward their narrow little minds...see it's all welling up.
Peace.

The same reason atheists sometimes get hostility from Christians:

Any combination of ignorance, intolerance, disrespect, narrow-mindedness, selective reading, impatience...

I can appreciate people sharing their beliefs and viewpoints in an effort to help someone else. But when they start insulting and threatening each other, I wonder if their belief or non belief is really very weak.

I know why we get hostility from SOME atheists. Most are cool but some in their infinitely greater intelligence than us Christians need to call us delusional idiots to build their own egos.

Christians exhibit the same hate and ignorance that their deity has been credited with in their buy-bull.
