I don't think it's haram.
Yes, Islam doesn't teach us to do this, but it's cultural thing that will be different in everyplace in this world.
And for me, keep cultural things is not wrong as long as Islam doesn't forbid it.

No, it's not haram.

Adam's couple is mentioned only as "Adam's couple" in the Qur'an. As matter in fact, the only named woman in the Quran is Mary mother of Jesus.

On other hand, if the intention of calling by the husband's last name is to imply to be a descendant of the husband's family and not to associate the wife with the husband, then it's haram. Since it's haram to falsely claim to be a descendant of a family that's not your family, unless you don't know (never told that you was adopted) or you mean no disrespect to God (like avoiding being murdered for being part of a certain family).

Asalam Alaikum
I think this would fall under the category of joking. And in Islam joking is allowed as long as it is truthful. So I would say it is not allowed as you using the name just for fun would not be truthful. I am not a scholar so I can't say for sure, thats just how I would view it. Allah knows best.

I gave you a star for this question because it aroused my curiosity. In Christian tradition the woman always takes her husband's last name. I assumed wrong that all religions followed this tradition as an axiom. Thank you for the information, I learned something. Now that I'm a bit more knowledgeable about the Islamic beliefs I think it would be best that you ask your husband about this before doing it either unofficially or otherwise, because you may inadvertently insult your husband.

No it is not haraam.

In Islam a person is not allowed to be attributed to another father that is not his/hers (to say that she is daughter of a person who is not her father.)

But using the surname of the husband is different. When in a country that has this habit, there is no problem about it from the religious point of view. Because taking the family name of the husband does not mean that you are claiming to be their daughter. I personally prefer that a woman keep her original family name.

Peace/salaam.

I don't see how it could be haram as long as you say it with respect. It's not like you're saying a bad word, it's his name!
