My sisters 4 year old boy was premature...we have always known he is allergic to eggs....he is small and slight and often gets sick...like he'll get over one thing then get something else.
The doc has just said that he has asthma too...and now he wants to test for more allergies...he has found that he is allergic to cats and so suspects that the reason he is always ill is that there may be even more allergies....in your experience do kids with allergies get sick a lot? He is very light for his age and it's a worry...

My son who is 6, is allergic to everything they tested him for, poor thing. When he was younger, he got colds more frequently than my daughter did, and his colds were more severe than hers were as well. The good news is, as he's gotten older, and gotten more effective treatment for his allergies, he has gotten to the point that he no longer gets sick all the time.

my daughter is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, cats, dust mites, birch pollen, and penicillin. she also has asthma.

if he's often getting sick with stuffy nose/ coughing/ asthma attacks, it could well be from allergies. before she started on daily allergy and asthma meds, my daughter wasn't sick often, but when she got sick with anything (even a cold) she always got desperately, awfully sick (pneumonias, ER visits, hospitalizations).

the good news is that when you figure out the allergies and the appropriate medications for the allergies and asthma, it can have a huge positive impact. my daughter has been *so* much better since she started the maintenance medications. hope you find something similar for your nephew.

Yes kids with allergies do get sick alot. I would encourage your sister to take him to an allergy specialist to do allergy testing and then you will know for sure what makes him sick and they can prescribe medicine to help.

Kids with allergies are more prone to upper respitory infections. Dust, animals and other things can bring on the allergic reactions and left untreated can lead to infections.

When i was younger I was allergic to everything, my parents had to do everything short of putting me into a bubble. And I was always sick, as far as i know its pretty normal.
