it gets on my nerves too. do these parents not realize what they are doing to their childs teeth? i have seen some kids with horrible teeth all due to the fact they sucked their thumb, sucked on a pacifer, or took a bottle til they were 3, 4 or 5 years old. some of the worst ones have had to undergo many painful surgeries that could have been prevented!
i want to tell them to be the parent and take those things away!

I have no idea why people do that.
My oldest on his first birthday he "donated" his bottles and pacifiers to my friends newborn. He even helped, because he was a big boy. I think everyone should find a way to have the kid involved and help get rid of them, so hopefully they don't freak out and they don't walk around with them forever.
Then again- what about those 4 year olds in diapers? That bothers me majorly. They are old enough to walk, talk, KNOW what they did but the parents don't bother to potty train them? Get real.
At the same time though- my 3 year old still uses a pacifier and bottle, she was 1lb 8oz when she was born so she is still a little developmentally delayed- I'm working on her motorskills with her but she still can't hold on to things well, so it's the only way for now.

because it's easier to give in I guess. babies get attatched to thier bottles and pacifiers and it's sometimes hard to break that attatchment. I personally think that 3 is the limit in binkies and I took my daughters bottle away at 12 months. It was really easy. I was DREADING the transition from bottle to sippy cup, but she took to it really fast. However, all children are different. She's now 2 and still has her binky but I think as long as it's retired by the time she's 3 it's fine. My cousins daughter kept her binky until a few months ago (she's almost 5) I think thats a little ridiiculous.

I have not seen a kid over the age of 3 with either a pacifier or bottle in YEARS. My sister was 4 when she gave up her pacifier (not without a lot of effort on my mom's part).
Today, a 3 year old has a sippy cup, but no pacifier. Sounds like England has stalled in baby stuff.

The kids are too attached to the bottle or pacifier and the parent is too lazy to deal with the child protesting when it's taken away. None of my kids used a pacifier and all three were on a sippy cup only at 1yr and I had no probs and they are very well adjusted. I hate seeing toddlers with bottles and pacifiers too!

My daughter had a pacifier at 4 yrs. old because it was a form of security for her. She had leukemia and spent weeks and months at a time in the hospital having absolutely awful things done to her. I was not lazy, I just was not going to take any more away from her. I know that it could have affected her teeth but you know what, they were the least of my concerns at that point! Teeth can be replaced.
So before you judge all people that allow their children to do these things, please try to understand that there might be a good reason for it.

Parents allow these things to happen b/c when they did try to take it away, the child screamed like crazy and it's easier to give it back then to let them act like that for a few days. I agree with you, I can't stand the sight of that. I once saw a 6 year old with a pacifier at the dentist office. He even had it tied on with a nasty shoe string Ewww. I was completely grossed out, but his mom said it was easier. She obviously had problems!

I know what you mean....I guess, it is because they want to keep their kids young and not to grow up, or they are just lazy
but yes I have seen kids like 6 or 7 in strollers with pacifiers...it was very odd

Its all about the parenting. It is easier to ignore your children then teach them!! It drives me crazy too, my daughter was off the bottle before she was a year old. Her binkee was gone before that!! There is no reason for a baby to have a bottle past a year.

I would worry more about the fact that you have a pet peeve that focuses on others. If you are like most people in the world, you have plenty of your own things to worry about. Leave others alone and let their kids' doctors talk to them about their individual situations.
You'll feel a lot better if you stop obsessing about others' issues. This is actually a form of OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder).
You can only change yourself. If you try to change others, you'll find yourself more frustrated than not. I am guessing this isn't the answer you were looking for, but it is the truth, and I hope one day it'll help you.
