The actual fare calculation is:

$2.65–– Flag drop (first 1/11 mile or 30 secs. or fraction thereof)
$ .35–– Each additional 1/7 mile or part
$ .35–– Each 47.5 sec. waiting time and/or traffic delay ($26.53/hr. wait).

So, 9.2 miles times 2.45 per mile=$22.54
Plus, $2.65 flag drop
Add about $7 waiting in traffic
Equals about $32 +tip. Don't be cheap, he's working NYE.

OR, you could take the Metro back. It runs until 2AM for FREE! (Only NYE)

instead of taking a taxi
on New year eve
from 9Pm to 2:00am the subway all rail lines
will be operated 24 hours for that day
and all ride will be free from 9pm to 2:59am
new years day
a lot cheaper then a taxi (plus you might have a hard time finding one on new years eve too)

Too much. Take the Red Line from downtown L.A. and it will let you off right at University City Walk.
