PS3 is where the future is. People that say 360, are either stuck in a Halo fanboy world, or simply put - they don't fully understand hardware.
Think about - why are all the major game developers starting to develop for PS3 and then port games to 360?
Oh yeah, and what was IGN's 2007 Game of the Year? Was it Halo 3? Maybe even Fable? No, it was Uncharted: Drakes Fortune - a PS3 only release!!

Ps3.
It uses Blu-ray which stores 50Gb in each disc. This means that the games come with more information and better graphics than Xbox's 9 GB DVD disc.
The Ps3 has Sixaxis controller which is wireless and you can connect up to 7 at once. Sixaxis allows for motion that is the same as on the Wii.
Ps3 has full internet capabilities and you can store music, movies, etc. You can use it as a computer, and you can connect printers to it. The Xbox cant say it has all of this (Xbox doesnt have full internet).
PS3 will soon have PS3 Home which is an online virtual 3d community which will allow you to create and avatar who will have a house with furniture and an acheivement zone which is similar to the Xbox. Also it will have a movie theater where you can download theatrical trailer. And this is all for FREE. The Xbox charges you 50 a year for online play.
If you ever need to upgrade the Gbs you can do it yourself and expand the warranty. Xbox makes you buy everything from microsoft at expensive prices.
Ps3> Xbox
And for games. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune alone is worth buying the PS3.

PS3 is much better hardware. Microsoft is not the best in the hardware business, nor does it make the best software. Most people I know with a 360 have had failures of some sort. The most recent was when someone (not the owner of the xbox) accidently turned off the 360 while it was updating...it would not boot back up until he tried multiple times then it had errors.

It's barely had a past.
It's already got some great games out (Ratchet and clank, Uncharted, Call of duty 4, Heavenly sword, ..) and plenty more on the way (including, Metal gear 4, Killzone 2, GT5, GTA4, Home, Little big planet....)
As for PS2-related matters, keep an eye out for which model you buy if you want to play your old games on it (40GB is unable to play PS2 games)
but worth noting that future editions of franchises you liked on PS2 may appear on 360 (like Devil may cry) but will almost always appear on PS3 (like metal gear, Final fantasy, etc)

The X box is very popular, I am personaly a Playstation Guy all the way. I have a lot of ps1 and ps2 games. If you want to play older ps games on the ps 3, DO NOT buy the new 399.99 40 GB version it is not backwards comptable. Buy the original 60 gig verson or the new 80 gig version, which is what i plan on doing. Good Luck.

It's a tricky question. Right now PS3 has horrible games and the multi platform games look better on the 360.
