My friend and I, both 15, are about to start learning how to play the acoustic guitar.

I was wondering if you play the acoustic guitar the same way you play an electric guitar? Is there a difference in how to play, or are they just different kinds of guitars?

Also, I really want to learn how to play Collide by Howie Day...how long do you think it'll be until I get there?

The difference is going to be in the design, and sound. With an electric guitar, you will be able to play more notes higher on the neck because of the design. Make sure you go to a reliable guitar store so you can try out different guitars. You'll want to find one that has a thin neck, and the strings are close to the frets. Check on the return policy, and possible trade in. If you purchase a guitar, keep in mind, you get what you pay for. Conditioning the fingers, and practice is the key word. How long it takes you to achieve a goal will be up to you. Good luck.
Here's a gift. The chords are basic, and shouldn't take long to learn.

GUITARS AND STYLES ARE AS DIFFERENT AS JIMI HENDRIX AND JAMES TAYLOR.

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
