im active army right now in basic training. is there any way to switch to reserve? if so, how long do i have to wait and who do i need to talk to?

Sorry young fellow, you signed the papers and took the oath. You're stuck for at least the duration of your active duty committment and then for the remainder of the eight year committment. Of course before you muster out of active duty you will have the option of enlisting in the National Guard or the Army Reserve. Good luck and keep your powder dry. Remember this little bit of advice, never volunteer for anythingf and keep your head down.

Possible? Yes. Likely? No.

They got you for four years of active duty. Considering current events, I do not see any reason why they would agree to transfer you into the Reserves, since they are calling up the Reserves all the time anyway.

Sure. Serve your committment, and when your enlistment is over, you can certainly join the active reserve.
