David Hicks was captured in Afghanistan. He was an Australian national who had undergone training in a Jihadi Madrassa and had pledged "Bayat" (Loyalty) to Usama Bin Ladin. He was held at Camp Delta in Guantanamo for several years and was then transferred to Australia where he just completed nine months imprisonment under Australian law. He is on supervised probation and will have to check in personally with authorities once a week for the next several years.
The U.S. does not share control and operation of Camp Delta with any other nation.
However, there are nationals from over fifty countries that have been held at Camp Delta since the facility was first opened. This includes some from English speaking countries like Australia, Great Britain and Canada, as well as several countries in Europe and Asia.
I hope this information fills in the "gap" created by your reaction to some report on CNN.

I think you are confused. Guantanamo is for the government to hold possible terror suspects no matter what country they are from as long as they are some how connected to a terror plot within the US. However, there are all kinds of loop holes they get people held on. That's why it's in Cuba not on US soil. There was an Australian being held because the US wanted to question him and such. Not because Australia wanted to hold him there.

David Hicks? Yes, he was an Australian detained for serving with the Taliban and allegedly training at al-Qaeda linked camps.

The United States were the ones who wanted to keep him at Guantanamo Bay prison, not Australia. We wanted to deal with him ourselves. But never mind that, he was eventually repatriated back to Australia to serve the rest of his term, only being released yesterday.

I hadn't heard that, but it's possible, there were certainly Australians and others. There. Maybe some of these countries sent them to th US, no they definitely did.
