Go with the automatic partitioning unless you have great experience with partitioning or are willing to read up on it. It's especially peculiar with Linux.

It's tricky to do, you might want to find a manual page for fdisk, the installer has option to partition the drive through the gui, it's MUCH easier doing it this way than it is using fdisk, with fdisk you can destroy drives or change the size of them. The live disk will always allow recovery but if I were you I'd avoid using the command like for this task, never the less I've included a man page for fdisk. You can also try parted, I hear this is easier to use but doesn't come on most operating systems.

To Dual-boot with Windows??? Only one hard drive or two? Two drives is better and easier. You do not need to do this manually.
