My Mother called me this morning and is very ill. She has been vomiting and using the bathroom all morning. She also has blood on the toilet paper when she wipes. SHe does not have blood in her stool but does have blood when she wipes. Any ideas what this could be?

With vomiting comes diarrhea, which could result in over wiping (causing irritation and bleeding). She needs the wet wipes for bathroom purposes and apply Vaseline. She also needs Pedialyte water if she is losing everything from both ends. This will replace her electrolytes and make her feel better. If symptoms subside and she feels like eating, only liquid diet for first12 hours (like broth, jello, etc.) then on to soft foods. If she has any pain or gets worse she should be seen right away. If still vomiting on Monday, her doctor can give her medication to stop it. Hope this goes away fast for her, I have heard of lots of stomach ailments recently. Best of luck to her!!!

you can't see blood in stool - only that the stool is darker with internal bleeding - blood upon wiping is normally hemorrhoids - but she should have had this symptom before now. More than likely the vomiting caused the hemorrhoid, but rather be safe than sorry.
