Widows XP preferably. What do those bits mean?

Many newer CPUs are 64 bit processors, and can run the 64 bit version of Windows AND will also run the 32 bit version of Windows. 32 Bit CPU's can't run Windows XP 64.

The bit bus width determines how much data can move between the CPU and RAM, etc. Think of the data bus as a highway , 32 bit is like a 4 lane highway and 64 bit is like an 8 lane highway.

TIP: The 64 bit version of XP is not worth it, there are virtually no hardware drivers written for it. But, Linux (LinuxMint) screams on a 64 Bit CPU.

64 bit in windows allows you to use alot more RAM, while in 32 you can only use up to 4GB max, as windows 32 only recognizes 4gb. The advantages to 32bit is that most programs are made for 32 bit windows. 64 is more for professionals in 3d design, programming, etc.

Not much. 32bit processors are limited in how much ram or data they can transfer. 64bit processes can handle way more ram (greater then 4GB) and handle massive file transfers. Processors running in 64bit mode normally operate with much more efficiency as well. For today’s usage 64bit CPU's have almost limitless resources.
