No. God knows your heart. If you are saying it to escape hell, He'll know. If you are truly sorry for your sins and confess them with a contrite heart, He'll know that as well.

If it is said with conviction and true remorse for past sins, then yes, of course. Nobody likes to hear this, but the issue is dealt with in the Parable of the Workers, Matthew 20:1-16. DOesn't matter when you were called to work in he vineyard - early in the day or at the last minute. God's justice requires that all are rewarded.

It takes more than just SAYING "....come into my life now." You must MEAN it.
It takes more than just SAYING one is truly sorry. One MUST be truly sorry for anything one does that is not favorable to God.
I was forgiven long ago and when I sin, I TRY to remember to ask forgiveness. We can fool our friends and family by saying, "I'm sorry," but we CANNOT fool God.
So, yes ANYONE can be forgiven of ANYTHING if one is TRULY sorry and TRULY repents (not want to do it again), and asks for God's forgiveness.
Our life here on earth isn't even a blink of an eye compared to eternity. We make the decision where we will spend eternity, and THAT is the most important.

Well it goes far beyond that Doug. It's the matter of the heart and the genuine humbleness that motivates someone to even want to speak those words.. Anyone can spout off words and very sadly, some of those who have done just that are attending churches all over the country. I contend that it's the heart motivation behind those words...

My first instinct is to agree that hypocritical evil doers may be lying about changing their hearts, but never fear that God will be fooled by these hellions.
God knows every thought we have. The Bible says "God judges the heart". If you lie, by saying magic words, He is not fooled.
I suspect you don't want them forgiven EVEN if they are truly sorry, and devote themselves to God and good. This will hurt you!!!
Jesus taught forgiveness, as the right thing to do, but it is also good for the forgiver, as well as the forgiven.
The Lord's prayer says "Forgive us, as we forgive others". Evil is hard to forgive, that's why evil doers go to hell. It would not be heaven if they were there.
Jesus said people would someday pund on the door of heaven saying "Lord? Lord!", but they will be told "I never knew you!"
As a parent, I often remind myself "boys will be boys". No one would be alive if we stone people to death for sins!
The Bible says "all have sinned (except Jesus) and fallen short of the glory of God's goodness!
It is evidence of God's great love that he knows our every thought and action, yet loves us very much!

You can't just say that word and be forgiven of everything, then justice would have no meaning.
You can be forgiven, of most sins, but you really have to be sorry enough to never do them again. If you say your sorry and the next day do the same thing again, then that person is not really sorry are they?

Yes, they could !!! However, they won't. Because their hearts have been hardened and their consciences seared; as with a branding iron.
Now, this is only for the small minority that have crossed the line into ultimate evil, opened themselves up to be possessed and so rebellious toward God - that they are irredeemable.
And it is a case by case basis.

It never works that way, Jesus and our Father know our hearts and if we are really repenting, it is up to them to Judge not us...Jesus walked with the sinners, He came to save the sinners and He did many of them, and they sinned no more meaning they changed their way of life, but no simply saying the words don't count...you need to educate yourself a bit more about being a true christian it simply means you listen to Jesus' teachings and try to apply as many to your life as you can, you learn them, and recognize it if you walk closely with Him, when you fail, and you do fail but you see it and ask for strength to not repeat it, you mean it, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak...this is true...this is why we need to be saved. ...if you choose to believe that.
Don't get dogged by what others say how things should be or are.
Although, there is some truth to that idea.
The idea of being forgiving isn't in saying "forgive me" but by the desire to be different.
If a murder or rapist or whom ever; desires to change then it will be.
God is unconditional love.
It is each individual who chooses to be conditional or unconditional to others.

Voicing the words without feeling them, no. Truly believing them with all the angst that goes with repentence and then trying to repair the damage as best as able, then yes.

No, there aren't such things as magic words in the bible. You have to also change in your heart and actually feel remorseful for what you did. Saying "sorry, forgive me" doesn't help much if you just keep doing evil.
