It is the release from this physical body and life --- at an old age, it is to escape the fragile old body which does not function anymore. It is always the transformation to that of the spirit - to go back from whence we came.
I haven't read all the info at www.figu.org (English Discussion Forum) about this, as it is scattered everywhere? there...
I think it says - the life on Earth, is our active cycle, and the afterlife is our recuperation period - and that all our learning, etc is done here.. and yes - reincarnation happens. You can't escape it.

It means leaving the nonsense of this world and entering eternity in God's presence. I should see it in 20 years or so.

it means I have to look at myself and try not to be an idiot in making life choices cause I don't want to go to hell. It also means I'm finally free from this life, all the unfairness and pain and misery that I feel like it causes me

Death would hopefully mean eternal life in Heaven with God. Only He knows His criteria, but I have to believe He would want me there.
