Do you think it's better to pierce their ears as a newborn, or let them make up their mind later on?

I want mine to make up her mind later. It will be a rite of passage sort of thing.

Plus, babies and toddlers tug their ears when they have an earache, and could irriate, pull, and infect the piercing, so I don't think it's all that safe.

I think pierced ears on a newborn looks trashy. Let her make up her mind later on.

Let them decide on their own. It would never enter my mind to rush out and get my baby girls ears pierced. I got to decide when I was young. I was about 10 or 11 when I got my first piercing, the pain was minimal and it was a mother daughter experience for me. I was 18 when I got my second piercing, all decided by me!

--- I was never scared or too immature to take care of them on my own because it was something I really wanted.

I think it's better to wait until they are old enough to decide for themselves.

My daughter is 7 and she wants her ears pierced, but I don't think she is ready yet.

I think piercing an infant or toddler's ears is a little bit like giving a kid a tattoo...they really have no input into it, and they are kind of stuck with something they didn't ask for.

Let them ask for their ears pierced when they want it later on.

Piercing newborns ears is weird and pointless.

i think it borders abuse to pierce a newborns ears, think about the odds of a child getting ear infections in the first 2 years of life, my peds doctor has seen many newborns thru 2 year olds who have ripped the earrings out, very very sad, i think my daughter is so cute so attractive, she does not need holes drilled into her ears to look better

My daughter is 10 months and we got hers done last month. Your child will need to be 2-3 months old with the first shots before most places will do it. the dr also can do it for you. Its all very quick and if you have had yours done before you know its pretty painless. a quick snuggle and they forget all about it. Its harder when they are older because they will mess with them and then you have to decide if they can take care of it themselves or if you need to help. I say do it now. If they dont want it later on just dont put earings in.

I think you should wait, let them make their own mind up, and they will probably want them anyway, but still, I don't like earrings on really young babies or toddlers

if you want to pierce their ears go ahead when they get older if they don't want to wear the earrings then they could always take them out and let their holes close.
