No.....my parents were very good role models.
I became an Atheist in my 2nd year in college.
I began to question things that previously I took on faith.

I still have christian parents.. Nope I didn't become an Atheist because of anything my parents did or didn't do.. I am an Atheist because I believe there are and never were any deities.. I came to the conclusion after years of research...
Well guess you could say my parents had a small part in it as they encouraged me to think for myself and got me a library card opening the door to knowledge of every sort.... Well there's a lesson for the christians stay away from the library it's obviously an evil place of knowledge that should be avoided if not bombed and destroyed LOL...

No, I went to so much church, Sunday school, and Religion classes that were supposed to indoctrinate me, but I couldn't get anyone who could answer my questions without "have faith" or something of the sort. I took some great Theology classes at University and I understood the purpose of religion. I don't need there to be a God for me to be happy or not fear death. I think religion is a crutch for weak people who fear death and want an easy out for their guilty concience. All I have to do is confess and I will be absolved? That sure makes being good simple.
As for my parents, they were wonderful people, yet imperfect. However, Christians need to stop looking for some sinister reason why people don't believe. It's not a mystery, we just don't buy the story that's been shoved down people's throats. Nothing more. It's logic and common sense.

Why answer a question like this which is nothing but an attempt to bait people? I'm often accused of being an atheist, tho' actually a Pantheist and agnostic about an afterlife which is quite different, and my parents were quite religious. Why did I abandon their faith? Not because they were not perfect, because the FAITH was not perfect. My parents are OK by me. Their FAITH, its rigidity, its a-logic, its superstitious foundation, its animosity towards science and philosophies that were different, its xenophobia, homophobia, its intolerance were quite sufficient reasons for me to abandon it. I'm not aware, out of the hundreds of atheists I've know, of a single atheist who became an atheist because he or she had "imperfect" parents. If imperfect parents made atheists, the WHOLE WORLD would consist of nothing but atheists.
Your question is typical of a person whose education is gotten solely from a Holy Book or TV and who has never cracked open a book of science or rational philosophy once in his life except when forced to do so in school. What a shame!
You are right about a person who expects perfect parents is expecting too much. Same applies to God as well. God would also have to be just as dumb to expect perfection of human beings, or to turn Heaven into some exclusive resort for perfect people, because if that were the case, the population of Heaven would be 0! God would have to chuck himself out of Heaven as well, because God's messed up world would be good evidence of lacking perfection himself!
A bon chat, bon rat!
(To the good cat, a good rat!)
What is good for the goose is good for the gander!
God should apply his own ridiculous demand for perfection to himself and chuck himself into Hell for allowing the needless suffering of billions of beings for no reason whatsoever, when all would have been preventable.
See, I didn't abandon Orthodoxy because my parents were imperfect. I abandoned Orthodoxy because its GOD was impefect. In fact, downright cruel, unjust, stupid, malign, jealous, hostile, xenophobic, and just plain too ignorant to be my God. Thank you!

We became atheists because there was no evidence for the existence of any gods.
As Trina so wisely asks, "When will people get it through their heads that Atheism is not rebellion? It's the result of logical thought."
Did you stop believing in Santa Claus because you hated him? Or because your parents weren't perfect? Or because you didn't get some toy you wanted?

I became an atheist because I realized there is no god. I give my parents a little credit due to the fact that they aren't devout. If I had a set of crazy fundie parents who knows what kind of mindset I would have been brainwashed into.

No. I became atheist because after years of study and searching I realized god(s) do not exist. They are a man made concept to help people feel better about things we don't understand such as suffering and death. In the past they even explain things like lightning and the sun coming up day after day.

Of course not. I love my parents regardless of their imperfections...and they didn't have many! No, this old canard that people become atheists because Daddy was mean just don't wash anymore. I became an atheist because that's where the evidence led me. If your intention is to undermine atheists convictions, than you're barking up the wrong tree.

I "became" an atheist because I have a modicum of common sense. No big deal. The real question is, how can anyone buy into all that pre-medieval claptrap? Afraid of dieing? Get over it already.

My parents were pretty much perfect parents, so nope, you're wrong.
Not being an idiot, I don't expect perfection from humans, and I can actually make up my own mind and think for myself.
I know, amazing, huh?
