I have been paying regularly on my back tax for the past 17 years and am happy to say that I paid you all their payments including their penalties and interest, I would love to include them on my credit references is this possible.

Since tax debts can be reported on your credit report, paying one off will help to improve your credit rating once it shows up as paid. But as a credit reference, it won't help.

A lien release will eventually show up as a plus on your credit report. Paying delinquent taxes for 17 years does no speak well by any stretch of the imagination.

I would not do this as you are paying them in arrears. Had you been a good person of credit you would have paid your taxes on time to begin with.

If you need credit reference due to lack of credit try using your electric, water and garbage bills.
