Is legislation needed? For a Holiday to be 'official or national' what must happen?

Act of Parliament.
The last one given to us was the May Day (1st Monday in May). 1980 it was given I think.
We have too many Bank Hols at the start of the summer IMO. After the August Bank Holiday, there is no more official hol. until Christmas.

Public or Bank Holidays are created by Act of Parliament.

We have Bank Holidays which are public holidays.

actualy am not an uk national, but in my home land through the kids you can notice spacialy when you are not aworkin person
