I am considering getting a M16 from either JG or ECHO 1. I have heard that JG and ECHO1 are identical except that ECHO1s have better gears and less FPS and JGs have crappy gears and high FPS. I want a more durable and long lasting gun, but the ECHO1 is $35 more than the JG. Is is worth it?

Echo1 and JG guns are the EXACT SAME. Echo1 buy bulk lots of JG guns and quality checks them before rebranding them.

Many Echo1guns are now getting the metal bushings that were lacking in the early JG guns. This is because E1 bought up almost the entire run of newer JG guns with metal bushings. This makes the Echo1 guns with metal bushings more worthwhile as the nylon bushings in the older guns will quickly fail due to the power of the spring.
However if you're compotent at mechanical things, it's cheaper to get a JG gun and a set of metal bushings (Systema oilless steel busings are great ant about $15 a set) and install them yourself.

They both feature Classic Army steel gears and chrono at about 350-ish fps with .2g ammo.

EDIT: James, it's Golden Bow actually, but you're 100% right!

There is no difference between the two brands' guns at all. The JG company in China makes the guns and sells a bunch of them, but they sell some of them to Echo1 in USA which adds a warranty, and pads the price, adding an additional $25-$40 to the JG price. I'd say get the JG because any reputable airsoft store tests their products for lemons before shipping them.

Alright, heres the thing, Echo1's will lasts longer due to the internals being better (Echo1's FPS is about 360 or so ...Dont quote me I havent really gotten one yet.). If your looking for a longer lasting gun the Echo1 might be your best bet.
A few things I would get New with it would be a new battery Preferably an Intellect (I have them in both Rifles I own), And then a Speed charger/Discharger so that you can take care of the battery(ies). As well as some Silicon spray to clean your Rifle up. Only how you treat it will dictate on how long it will last.

Man, here's the real deal.
JG, Jing Gong, GB, Golden Boy, and Echo-1 are all the same gun made under different names for different distributors. (Jing Gong, means Golden Boy)
Is one better than another?
Why hell no.
They all came off the same assembely line!
SERIOUSLY.
Look on the comments under these brandnames at Airsplat's website if you don't believe me.
