It is absolute according to biblical teachings that abortion and divorse is not supported by the church of God no matter what denomination one claims. A protestant practicing lady told me once that the prodestant church doesn't and needs to stress the issues of divorse and abortion more. Catholics really make it a point to be completely against divorse and abortion. (not saying all catholics practice it perfectly).

Why don't Prodestants stress on those issues more?
Do you think they should?

I am a Protestant Christian and I agree that the Christian Church, which is comprised of Catholics as well as Protestants, should address the issues of divorce and abortion more than it does. I do know that the Catholic Church tends to be more vocal against divorce and abortion than the Protestant churches in general, but generally, most Christian churches are against divorce and abortion. Divorce is usually not permitted per the Bible except in cases of infidelity or marrying an unbeliever. Many churches today allow divorce in cases where spouses are miserable or where one spouse mistreats the other. I myself divorced after 20 years of marriage due to emotional and psychological abuse by my husband. The Bible does not provide for a divorce in such a case and I struggled with that issue, yet chose to divorce my husband anyway. In terms of abortion, because the Bible says we are not to kill and it also says that God knew us when we were first "knitted together" in our mother's womb, then it would stand to reason that abortion is wrong in God's eyes. I do agree with you that Protestant churches (as well as ALL churches claiming to be Christian) ought to take a stronger stand against divorce and abortion.

well if you wanna get strictly biblical, abortion is a definite NO (exodus 20:13) cause murder is the same before or after birth but divorce was permitted in the old testament (Deuteronomy 24:1-4) but when we see Matthew 19:8-11 and Luke 16:18 it makes divorce the last thing on our minds.I dont know what church u been to but as a Protestant Christian we do stress the importance of these issues however theres only but so much u can do. God gave us freewill so regardless of whats right or wrong people are bound to do what they want especially when emotions are involved . But yea we should stress it more because u can never preach enough of Gods Word

I think they're afraid of losing members instead of standing their ground. I believe churches need to help prevent these things. When I was in Guatemala the churches down there were very inclusive. Families and church members helped you with your relationships. The idea is that if you are open-minded and listen to people, you will be able to see any foreseeable problems in your relationship. I didn't meet any person who had been divorced or was in the process of getting a divorce. They strictly enforce the idea that you must get to know your significant other by talking and getting to know each other's friends and family. If you can see the person for who they are inside instead of how good they are in bed, you can love them forever. I also didn't meet anyone who had a kid before marriage. By helping and counseling their members, I felt they helped them. It's hard to explain this but I assume many latinos out there will understand what I'm talking about.

I think you may have your head in some proverbial sand.

I mean, you only need to look at the debate about the presidential primaries to see what a big role marriage and abortion are playing. I think protestants and catholics need to work together to make sure the professional politicians know that we won't accept the status quo any longer.

It would be nice if Catholics disciplined those from their church who are in public office and uphold killing babies as a right, and refuse to acknowledge marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Different denominations start because they just want to be allowed to something they could not previously do. That is how the Anglican Church started, the king wanted to get divorced and was not allowed to under Catholic law so low and behold, Anglican church was created. And guess what? It was ok to divorce.

Conservative protestant churches do stress the sinfulness of abortion and divorce.

Liberal churches that don't believe the Bible and are there to be social clubs make up their own rules but still call themselves by the name of Christ.

I do stress these issues, however a lost person cannot see the sin in it so the FOCUS should be pointing them to Jesus and spreading the gospel of His salvation. NOwhere in the bible do you see the apostles nor anyone else preaching against these things nor are we commanded to. We are to be fishers of men, the problem is that so many Christians are trying to clean the fish before they're caught, you know what I mean? They must be saved first, then they will see the wrong in their ways. If we want to see a change in these practices and our country, people must first come to Christ. Peace.

The bible allows divorse but doesn`t allow abortion. Different denominations accept and dismiss different parts of the bible and some add in their own little pieces..!!

I don't think that the church should stress particular situations.. The thing the church should do is focus on on our spirituality and the intentions of our heart. People get too caught up in dogma and lose the real point. Just be... love... move foward, the rest will take care of itsself.

Protestants pretty much gave up all pretense of following Scripture, or the Messiah that inspired it. They choose the things that will appeal to most people, and bring in the most money. Not the things that will please YHVH. Should they? If they want eternal life, they certainly should, but somehow they have convinced themselves they can have eternal life in disobedience to the Creator.
