the problem is that last night i bought him soy milk and he did not sleep all night because he didnt drink it, he took one sip and doesnt want it. He hasnt eaten all day today beacuse he doesnt like it, he wants his regular milk. If i get him lactose free milk, will that be ok? or is it something else in the milk that gives him the allergic reaction. thank you.

Milk proteins are the chemicals that trigger allergic reactions, so you cannot feed your kid lactose-digested milk. Lactose is a form of sugar.

You will need to check your food labels thoroughly. There should be small, but bolded print stating whether the item contains milk protein.

Lactose intolerance is a separate problem and is NOT a real allergy. When people cannot tolerate lactose, it is because they do not produce enough lactase, the enzyme necessary to break lactose into glucose and galactose (two different kinds of sugar that when bound together form lactose).

Lactose intolerance is marked by gastrointestinal distress, not rashes. If the kid is having rashes, it's more likely a result of allergy to milk protein.

Our 3 sons were allergic to milk, eggs, peanut butter, orange juice, and bananas. Our first son hated soy milk too and would not drink it. He finally got hungry enough but it was so hard to wait until he did try and drink it. Our 3rd son had anaphalectic reaction which sounds like your son and the Dr. put him on Enfalac (sp) and he was fine. I'd also check with your Doctor and watch your son for other signs of allergic reactions. DO check with your Doctor though as it is a serious reaction.

I am allergic to milk and eggs also. I have found that drinking Vanilla flavored soy milk is what has worked for me, and I just avoid the eggs. More than likely it's the lactose. Sometimes children grow out of these allergies, hopefully your son will. My son was also born with my same lactose intolerant system and was a very sick newborn until we figured out his allergy. He also drank soy milk, and has been fine. It's a different taste, that you have to get used to, but it's not that bad. My whole family drinks it now.

I would think twice about giving your son soy milk. Many people have brought it up in the men's forum that soy lowers testosterone levels. I don't know if it true, but I would ask your pediatrician this.

"A recent study found that 56g of soy protein powder per day caused serum testosterone to fall 19% in four weeks in a test group of twelve healthy males"
