Well, as He told peter, "You are Peter ( the stone ) and on this stone I shall build my Church. The gates of evil shall not prevail against it. I shall be with you until the end of times"
"I shall give you the keys of the kingdom of Heavens. Anything you tie on earth shall be tied in heaven, and anything you untie on earth shall be untied in heaven"

The Church has faced many enemies since its creation.
Nero, Diocletian, Decius, Domitian, Napoleon, Arnaldo de Brescia, Leo the isaurus, the schisms, the antipopes, the internal corruption, the unworthy popes, Vittorio Emanuel II .

In Italy, for the last two centuries, the atheists, carbonari, masons, and similar, were saying that with the guts of the last pope they would hang the last king.

Well, the last king of Italy died many years ago, but the pope is still there

It means that Our Lord Jesus did keep His word

"If" being the operative word...You know what really inspired the popes? Love of money and power, as you can see by their fruits. Jesus said to call no man on earth "Father." The popes claim the papacy is based on Peter the Apostle. Hello? Peter was married. Maybe if the popes actually followed the Bible we wouldn't have a problem with politically-powerful religious leaders taking advantage of little boys. I think the whole idea of the papacy is evil. If you think that Catholicism is the same as Christianity, you need to do more research. The Catholic Church didn't even come into existence until the fourth century A.D. I'm sick of people saying the Universal/Catholic Church is the "original" Christian church. I don't hate Catholics, OK? I just hate the doctrines/deeds of the Nicolaians, and so does Jesus.

If the popes truly represent Jesus, then Jesus is religion's John Kerry. I'm for this, wait no I'm not. Popes have been some of the most violent people on earth. No wonder why Mohammed responded with such violence. Just look at the crusades. Popes change policies to their own liking. God isn't everchanging. Why would Jesus be. He must change his laws all the time though because the Popes do.

edit: never changed anything? Mayans and Aztecs were declared animals by the catholic church. That hasn't changed? Thanks for letting me know, I'll let Mexico, Guatemala, etc. know. Kids couldn't go to heaven unless they were baptised. Now the Pope says if you're a child you automatically go to heaven. Yeah, nothing has changed. Thanks so much for your comment.

i look at it in terms of the way people can take one thing and say that is their inspiration and completely go in a different direction. i do not think jesus inspired any hateful acts, rather i think people who came to power tried to justify these acts by saying they were done in jesus's name. its a tactic still used today quite frequently (check out our president) even if its not exactly about jesus. i think an examination of the popes would tell us alot about the power in organized religion rather than jesus's affect on the world. i think jesus's teachings only spread love and peace while people found him to be a powerful tool that they exploited once they reached a certain level of power in the church. just my thoughts! have a great day!

Just because some human beings were inspired by Jesus or Jesus' life, in no way means they are like him; only some barely even come close to the creator of our universe. Just because you, like many other human beings now and through the milleniums misinterpret Jesus' message to the world, in no way means you or they are like him. There is only one way to know the reality of Jesus, and it is not the way of the world, or the way of human eyes and ears.

Jesus IS Hebrew, He inspired lots of religions, but none of them take His teaching to heart.
He is the same yesterday, today & forever, He never became Catholic, He never preached Catholism, or the traditions like Christmas, Easter etc. He never had a mass, He never went to mass, He never told us to go to mass, He never told us to look to popalcy to find Him (a Jew).
U need to look at our Lord through clear eyes not toward the popalcy, but to the Word of God.

If He inspired the popes through history, it doesn't mean that they all moved according to the inspiration.. Hence the Protestant movement.

There is not one single formalized doctrine in the Catholic Church which they have contradicted or reversed. Despite the years of "bad" Popes Christ has still guided His Church.through centuries of tribulation.

Actually no... Unfortunately many have been inspired by their preconceived notions of Jesus, not his real teachings.

He would never condemn and never kill... many have done that in his name.
