The first step to understanding the Bible is to put yourself in the place of the original writers. Then say, I am going to write a letter to the future Jews to warn them about Jesus.
Then start writing. If you read the Bible with that thought the misinformation that has been Micky Mouse into the Bible will glare out at you.

Putting yourself in the place of the original writers should have shown you that the Biblical authors cared less about predicting the future and far more about writing a current message for their contemporaries.

It is highly unlikely these Biblical authors knew what they were writing would someday end up in the Bible as Divinely Inspireed Biblical texts.

Interesting enough, the Gospel of Matthew was written by a Jew for a Jewish audience. This is why, throughout his Gospel, Matthew goes out of his way to detail everytime an OT prophecy was realized in Jesus.

But, without having the "spirit" of the actuall writers, then you have no real idea or concept of why they wrote it down in the first place? so, you will only have "useless words on paper.." "Peace!"
